​​Skymt is remnants and ripplings from memories of romantic songs.
​​
​​Through several years, Live Maria Roggen (vocal) and Ingfrid Breie Nyhus (piano) have worked with improvisatory interpretation of romantic texts and music, by zooming in and zooming out on different layers of what the song can be about, searching for different ways to express this. The duo have let their personal practices of today meet the old romantic musical material, and this serve as catalyst for developing new duo-expressions for song and piano.

​​Roggen/Nyhus have previously released the EP «Demanten», containing improvised versions of songs by Jean Sibelius and Finnish-Swedish poets. Though, during the later years, the work moved into compositional processes with memories and remnants of the songs and poems, with questions of what this can lead to in new forms, shadows and associations, through Roggen/Nyhus’ duo language and embodiment.

​​Skymt stems from songs and poems about unrest, longing, disturbance and sorrow - but it is not the old stores that are in the centre anymore, it is rather looking for new spaces that the old undercurrents may lead into.

​​Vocalist Live Maria Roggen has in all her 30 years as performer worked with explorative, collective improvisational forms, in addition to more well-known projects with new interpretations of jazz and pop songs. As a singer and coveyer of texts, she has received many awards, such as the Radka Toneff Memorial Award and the Buddy Award. For her own music, she received the Norwegian Grammy for the solo album Circuit Songs and was nominated or the Edvard Award for the commissioned work Apokaluptein.

​​As pianist and composer, Ingfrid Breie Nyhus uses her dofferent musical backgrounds to look for connections and new threads between traditions and practices. She has received awards such as the Norwegian Soloist Prize and the Norwegian Grammy, and “Work of the Year” from the national Composers’ Association for her “Slåttepiano II”. She performs regularly on international venues for folk, contemporary, improvised and classical music.
